When it comes to finding an extended family and home for your loved one with a developmental or associated disability, you want to feel at ease that you have made the right decision. The staff at UMAR takes great pride in the quality of care we provide, and many satisfied residents, parents and guardians echo this sentiment. “I like living in
the UMAR group home because I can go out to activities and have fun. We go
shopping, to church, and we like to sing. You meet nice people and that’s
what I like best!” “It has answered
my prayers knowing that my son is being allowed to be the best he can be.
I think the UMAR staff is superior. They are always interested and willing
to listen to what the resident or the family has to say. UMAR truly is
Scott’s second home.” "We have a great
group of residents-- nothing or no one can make me smile the way they do.
My co-workers would come in a close second! There is not a better group of
hard working and compassionate people anywhere." “The homes are
kept in excellent condition as to appearance, good management, varied
activities and attention to resident’s individual needs. It is very
rewarding for me to see the companionship of the six women in my
daughter’s home. There is a personal interest on the part of the UMAR
staff which is certainly an indication of it being more than just a job.”
“I am proud to be
in a group home and out on my own. I enjoy going to Circle of Friends with
my UMAR sisters and I like working at the UMAR office. Pretty soon I am
going to be in my own apartment and I am very excited that UMAR has given
me this opportunity.” “We are especially
happy to see Debbie developing life skills at her UMAR home that she had
not practiced in our home. We are so grateful to UMAR for providing such a
wonderful and secure home for our Debbie. She loves the staff and her
sisters, and she likes that she and her sisters are allowed to meet
prospective staff and have input as to who is hired. All of this is a
great comfort to we aging parents.” “I like the group
home because I have my best friend living with me. I have a job now where
I copy very important papers, and I hope to soon move into my own
apartment.” “Now I can do
laundry on my own. I am proud of myself. I like being friends with
everyone, cooking, playing basketball and going on activities with
everyone.” “I am happy at the
group home because I can work on my laundry goal. I get to see my
girlfriend a lot, too. My other goals are to move into an apartment, use
the city bus, help others and get married.”
