UMAR Starts With U is a free one-hour introduction to the agency held on the 2nd Friday of each month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the UMAR Charlotte Arts Center. The event consists of a free lunch, talk and a tour of the art center.  >> Read More

Founded in 1983, UMAR’s mission is to promote community inclusion, independence and growth for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential, employment and cultural enrichment opportunities.

UMAR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an agency and ministry of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our 24 group homes, 9 apartments, and 2 art centers and day programming, allow individuals to experience independent living in a home-like atmosphere.
