Founded in 1983, UMARís mission is to promote
community inclusion, independence and growth for people with intellectual
and developmental disabilities through residential, employment and
cultural enrichment opportunities.
UMAR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an agency and ministry of
the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our
24 group homes, 9 apartments, and 2 art centers and day programming, allow
individuals to experience independent living in a home-like atmosphere.
The Charlotte UMAR Arts Center is located at 1025 E. 36th Street (on the
grounds of Spencer United Methodist Church) Charlotte, NC 28205.

NoDa Art Garden Opening
Join UMAR as we officially open the NoDa Art Garden for business on
Oct. 9 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The official ribbon cutting is at 11
a.m. Music, refreshments, art and plant sales will follow.
