Founded in 1983, UMAR’s mission is to promote
community inclusion, independence and growth for people with intellectual
and developmental disabilities through residential, employment and
cultural enrichment opportunities.
UMAR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an agency and ministry of
the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our
24 group homes, 9 apartments, and 2 art centers and day programming, allow
individuals to experience independent living in a home-like atmosphere.
The Charlotte UMAR Arts Center is located at 1025 E. 36th Street (on the
grounds of Spencer United Methodist Church) Charlotte, NC 28205.

Lincolnton Arts Center Raised-Bed Garden Blessing
Downtown Lincolnton’s first wheelchair-accessible raised garden will bring
new life to the old North Academy Street tennis courts beginning April 16
at 10 a.m.—the official ribbon cutting, groundbreaking and blessing of the
“Our vision for the garden will come to life as we work side-by-side with
community partners to plant, tend, and harvest flowers, vegetables and
herbs—and make a beautiful spot in downtown Lincolnton,” Amy Vaughan, UMAR
Art Program Coordinator, said.
