Founded in 1983, UMARís mission is to promote
community inclusion, independence and growth for people with intellectual
and developmental disabilities through residential, employment and
cultural enrichment opportunities.
UMAR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an agency and ministry of
the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our
24 group homes, 9 apartments, and 2 art centers and day programming, allow
individuals to experience independent living in a home-like atmosphere.
The Charlotte UMAR Arts Center is located at 1025 E. 36th Street (on the
grounds of Spencer United Methodist Church) Charlotte, NC 28205.

Third UMAR Art Center, Art on Scales, Opens Doors
Cheers erupted Friday in downtown Reidsville at the grand opening and
ribbon cutting of Art on Scales, UMARís third art center.
Open for business Mon.- Fri., 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., the gallery and working
studio serves 20 adults with disabilities and provides artistic,
vocational and community inclusion opportunities for each individual.
